“Odysseus of Ithaca!!”
I’m back!
I haven’t written anything in a few weeks for several reasons. I was sick for two of the weeks with some nasty chest issue that had me coughing and wheezing and lacking energy to do anything. Then the ADHD kicked in in the worst way and would only allow copious amounts of mindless gaming and doomscrolling on TikTok. I started classes for my final semester of school before I graduate with my A.A.S in Cyber Security, so that’s eaten up a lot of my spell slots. I’ve been fighting with financial aid for months, just to find out someone screwed up when registering me for classes, so I had to get the head of Advising in on the issue, who got the director of Financial Aid involved. It’s been a doozy of a ride but, today, I got my financial aid issues almost completely fixed and can now concentrate on getting my schoolwork caught up (I’ve been slacking).
I’ve needed my financial aid because ya girl is perpetually broke and needs to get her car back up and running. Here’s a tip- Priuses are great cars until their hybrid batteries shit out, and then they’re tremendously expensive. I spent months fighting the dealership that wanted to charge me over $6000 to fix it, which is waaaaaay over-priced for a new battery. I eventually gave up and have decided to find another hybrid-certified mechanic shop to fix the issue. We’ve also wanted to replace the flooring in our house because the floorboards we have now absorb all sorts of moisture and weren’t installed well to begin with. The List is ever-looming, but I’ll soon be knocking some stuff off of it and that’s giving me some life.
In other news, I’m obsessed with Epic the Musical, by Jorge Rivera-Herrans. If you haven’t listened to it, you’re missing out. Jorge is a musical genius and I swear I’ve listened to the full playlist of songs twenty times over the last week. If you, like me, had a fascination with Greek mythology in high school and were taken by the Odyssey and the Iliad, you’ve got to listen to it so you can seethe about how Eurylochus is a dirty bitch and how Calypso can catch these hands, then cry about Polites every time Jay plays Open Arms to yank at your heartstrings. It’s hard to sing along to the songs when your voice cracks up because you’re trying not to cry.
The ADHD is dictating where this blog post is going so just hold in there with me.
In book related news, I’m flopping back and forth between Ghosts (the second book in the Hunters Series), Bound by Blood (the new title for Bonded), and several new projects I have no business starting while writing the others. Once such book is a Sapphic monsterfucker romance because I don’t see enough of those and I want the girlies that love the girlies get their monsterfuckery fix, too. The other book I’m stressing about is sort of a dark retelling of Howl’s Moving Castle, but with dragons, and, instead of an old lady, the FMC is a princess by day and a rogue by night. That’s right, ladies and gents, we’re going high fantasy. I had plans to release short stories for Spooky Season, but I have so much stuff already on my plate and I don’t know if I have it in me right now to add more on top of it. How do authors manage working full-time, raise kids, write, and have a solid self-care regimen? Witchcraft. That’s the only solution I can think of.
When all else fails, do witchcraft.
